August Report: Academic progress, Independence day, and new constructions

Academics

In August Heal School opened applications for the Plus One course, and between 200 and 215 children applied. The admission procedure was held in a very systematic step-by-step manner. Applicants had to complete a written test of 30 marks, and the students who scored a minimum of 12 marks were selected for the online interview. The interviews were held by our CEO Ajay Kumar sir, our principal Sreedevi ma’am, HVS principal Sarala ma’am (who is a member of our management) and Mrs. Mani Kumari and Mrs. Santha Rajyam. The students selected were those whom it was thought would fit best into the Heal culture.

There are three streams in the Plus One course –  MPC (Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry), BiPC (Biology, Physics & Chemistry) and MEA (Mathematics, Economics & Accountancy).

We also took the Tenth Class NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) final exams results this month with 100% pass rate. Our Principal and Vice Principal are working to shape our campus with new systems. As part of this, they developed a new system at our computer lab where all computers in the lab must have a unique number. Each person who needs a computer must give a valid reason and get permissions from the Principal or Vice Principal with a token system. They also have to enter their name along with timings of entry into the lab.

29th of August was Telugu Language Day. On that day all children gathered together and wrote poems in Telugu. Students from 4th to 9th class participated in this competition.

What a teacher is, is more important than what he teaches. We know the Teachers Day is the greatest day for all students in the world. For this celebration, children at Heal planned a series of programs to show their gratitude to teachers on 5 September. Dance performances planned by older children with folk, classical and western songs. Some children practised a role-play as teachers; for example, our Principal Sridevi mam’s role was played by Tejkala.

Unfortunately, these arrangements had to be postponed due to the sad demise of Shri Pranab Mukherjee (who is the XIIIth President of India). Due to his death, the Indian government had announced that no national festivals shall take place for a week.

Summary of Independence Day

Independence Day (15 August) is the biggest celebration in India. It is a proud day for all Indians and is celebrated very grandly at Heal every year with dancing, singing, mono acts and skits.

But, this year the occasion took place in just  20 minutes throughout the country due to the lockdown caused by the Coronavirus. It was very sad for all Indians. In our campus this gala was celebrated by conducting online competitions like drawing, creative writing, elocution, solo singing, and  fashion dressing competition while following central government noms. The Vandemataram and Made in India dance performances were shot and uploaded as videos on YouTube. You can watch them here

This is how our school celebrated Independence Day this year.               Satish & Rishi

Construction:

In our campus, construction had been postponed due to heavy rains. But after the rains stopped, the construction work began again. The water tank construction has reached up to five floors in height. In the staff quarters, electric wiring has been completed and plumbing work has been in progress. The staff quarters construction is now almost completed.

Gardening

In our garden, there were so many weeds and so many pests to get rid of. Our house mothers and other workers are working hard to remove these from the field, and they are planting saplings in the garden. Our management bought a grass cutter, weeding machine and wood cutter as gardening equipment. Our farming department is using some pesticides which are naturally manufactured to kill the pests.

Best out of Waste:

In our school we have many talented & creative students. These students made flowerpots & chappal stands using waste material available on our campus. The students were K. Devicharan & J. Aravind. We always encourage and support them with best wishes to innovate and build new things.

Repairing works:

Repairing is common while we are using things. In our campus, we are using so many things like fans, lights, and machines. If we use them  for a long time they have to be repaired and used again. In our campus some lights and existing fans are damaged and they are repaired. Nearly 90 lights and 12 existing fans are repaired by Bulli.  We thank him so much for  repairing our appliances. He also fixed regulators in all the classrooms.

Mess:

We store our food materials in the mess. Unfortunately, they get infected by some bugs, so we have to make sure the mess is clean, in order not to waste food and to stop us getting sick, a job which the house mothers and mess workers do daily. They expose the kitchens to sunlight to kill the bugs.We thank them for their help. This month we have many special foods sponsored by many people due to their birthdays, wedding day and so on. Miss. Mythili mam, a teacher in Heal celebrated her birthday and she sponsored lunch for us. We thank her and wish her a happy birthday. Lakshmi mam, sister of the Heal founder celebrated her birthday and sponsored food for that day. We thank her as well and wish her a happy birthday.

Student Interview

Hi friends, this is Rushi.T, 11th grade student in Heal Paradise and a member of the Heal Editorial Board. I am interviewing Satish, the Head boy of Heal school.

Today in front of us, we have our school head boy, Master Satish.

1. Satish, can you please give a brief introduction about yourself?

Ans:  Hello everyone, this  is  G. Satish studying in 11th grade at Heal school. I am from a remote village in Guntur district. My parents are Samsonu and Mary. I have been studying in Heal school for the past four years and recently completed my 10th grade.

2. How did you feel when you were elected as Head Boy (SPL)?

Ans: At that time, I felt a little bit scared about whether I can or cannot handle such a big  responsibility. But I felt very proud because out of the five hundred students, I was elected as the head boy of our school.

3. How do you manage your studies and these responsibilities?

Ans:  It was very difficult for me to manage both, but I managed through time management, following the timetable and I gave up some fun like movies and games in this time I used to study.

4. What do you expect from your team cabinet members?

Ans: I expect from my team unity and coordination with understanding. I give most importance to understanding because misunderstandings in a team may destroy the team and understanding can build a good and strong team. I believe this fact very much.

5. Can you say a few words about your experience as a Head Boy?

Ans: I have experienced so many sweet and bitter moments  as a head boy and bitter moments are more than sweet moments. But I know many things as an SPL and I have learned that education is not only scoring marks.  Moreover, I know this as a real fact.

6. What you learn from the SPL role?

Ans: I have learned many skills from the SPL role like speaking skills, how to convince people, handling many things, time management, communication skills and handling a crowd.

Thanks Master Satish.
